Over 300 km of prepared walking- and hiking paths, at heights of up to 2.309 m are awaiting to be explored in the mountain range of the Kitzbühel Alps. 50 working Alms and huts offer food & drinks, and a unique atmosphere. The gondolas at the Schatzberg- and Markbachjoch mountain bring you up to a true hiker's paradise swiftly and with ease.
New - SUMMER: Explore the Wildschönau for free without a car! With the Wildschönau Card you can use the main hiking bus between Niederau-Oberau-Auffach (all year round from May, also on weekends and public holidays at hourly intervals) or the Roggenboden-Thierbach-Schönangeralm hiking bus.
In addition to paths through the valley, there are also walks that start directly in the village and lead to smaller mountains, as well as pushchair-friendly family walks, such as the Auenweg Niederau path alongside the stream and the circular forest trail around the Thierbach Kogl hill. Another popular activity is a trip to the wild and romantic natural Kundl gorge and the family-friendly Schönangeralm hut, which is home to Johann the "King of Cheese".

Anyone who fancies a challenge can join moderate to difficult hikes up to altitudes of 2,309 m, where you are rewarded with stunning views and culinary delights. The top of the Markbachjoch lift is the starting point for a hiking tour on the Rosskopf mountain, where you can take in the views of the Wilder Kaiser mountain range. The highlight is the Grosse Beil, the highest mountain in Wildschönau.

The countless songs of the Wildschönau region, which are still readily sung today in the inns and huts around the mountains, have been recorded by the Oberau Male Voice Choir and are available for you to listen to or sing along on "The Path of Songs". You can listen to the typical folk songs at ten stations along the way using a QR code. The walk starts at the Raiffeisenbank in Oberau.
