Mountain Lifts in Summer
The summer lifts Markbachjochbahn in Niederau and the Schatzberg lift in Auffach in Wildschönau take you up to the mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps in comfort. The rides are free of charge for guests with the Wildschönau PREMIUM Card during summer.
The gondola runs from May to October and takes you from the village centre up to an altitude of 1,500 m. Once at the top, you can dive straight into your mountain adventure: hiking, biking, paragliding, hammocks, alm huts and mountain lakes are all waiting to be discovered.
- For a short walk at high altitude, follow the path to the Markbachjoch chapel, where you can admire the wonderful views of the valley, the Wilder Kaiser and the Rofan mountains. The family walk to the Holz Alm, also called Käse Alm (Cheese Alpine Hut) is a lovely walk, because – as the name suggests – you can take a look round the farm and sample the delicious cheese made there.
- A wonderful panoramic walk is the Markbachjoch-Halsgatterl-Roßkopf tour, which takes you up to an altitude of 1,731 m and past the Holz Alm/Käse Alm alpine hut on the way back.
- For anyone who fancies a challenge to reach the summit, we recommend a tour up to the Feldalphorn (1,920 m). You will pass a number of small tarns along the way. Return via "Halsgatterl" to Markbachjoch.
The gondola runs from the village centre to the eponymous local mountain. The middle station lies at an altitude of 1,300 m, the top station at 1,780 m and the gondola runs from June to October. Mountain bikers, hikers and families alike have a wide range of activities to choose from, tailored to their own needs.
A large children's playground at the Koglmoos Restaurant at the middle station of the Schatzberg lift is the perfect place for kids to play while their parents relax. The Schatzberg circular walk promises unparalleled panoramic views of the mountain landscape and the tour up to the Joelspitze summit is an enjoyable hike.
